National Cherry Festival Set to Sweeten Summer Fun!

June is finally here, and those in the Traverse City Area know this as the start of the National Cherry Festival! Beginning on June 26th, parades, concerts, air shows and more will take over one of Michigan’s most beautiful beach towns until July 6th. This festival dates back more than 100 years, with early ceremonies beginning as early as 1910. It wasn’t until 1925, however, that the first-ever Cherry Queen was crowned– Gertrude Brown. This was the beginning of this widely celebrated local tradition that still happens every year.

Tourists come from all over the country to experience the beauty of Michigan and the fun festivities it has to offer. The first day opens on a Saturday with events like yoga by the bay, NASA exhibitions, and air and car shows. Headliners like the Goo Goo Dolls and the Accidentals will host concerts throughout the week, and of course they’re will be lots and lots of cherries.

Michiganders from far and wide have much to look forward to this month, and with popularity spreading, cherry lovers from all over should try to make it to this year’s festival. More information can be found here on the festival’s website.
